The Rhode Island Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (RIPDES) Phase II Storm Water regulations require the Town of East Greenwich, as an operator of a municipal separate storm sewer system, to implement programs and practices to minimize pollution from storm water runoff.
The regulations require operators of municipal separate storm sewer systems within urbanized or densely populated areas to develop a Storm Water Management Plan.
The goal of the Town's Storm Water Management Plan is to reduce the adverse impacts to water quality, aquatic habitat, and human health by instituting controls on the unregulated sources of storm water discharges.
The Town's Storm Water Management Plan addresses the EPA and RIDEM six minimum control measures that are designed to improve water quality by reducing the pollutants that enter urban drainage systems during storm events.
Six Minimum Control Measures
- Public Evacuation and Outreach
- Public Involvement/Participation
- Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination
- Construction Site Runoff Controls
- Post-Construction Site Runoff Controls
- Pollution Prevention/Good Housekeeping
