Dear Residents of East Greenwich:
On Monday evening, during the Public Comments section of the Town Council meeting, Lt. William Perry, Local 3327 Union President stood and made a few remarks. His remarks, especially those concerning public safety concerns were false and misleading. It is incumbent on the Town to clarify and correct these inaccuracies because we have an obligation to the taxpaying public to demonstrate that we are providing competent fire suppression and EMS services.
We are not looking to pick a fight with Lt. Perry, but when he speaks as an officer of the East Greenwich Fire Department, he speaks with an air of authority. Anyone speaking with authority should be accurate with their information.
Below please find a transcript of Lt. Perry’s Public Comments. Where Lt. Perry made statements that are not accurate, we have highlighted the comments and interspersed in brackets, the accurate information to correct/clarify the record. This information was taken from the call logs and from first-hand information from Fire Chief Kevin Robinson (“Chief Robinson”), who was the first person on the scene and commanded the fire suppression operations.
Sincerely yours,
Gayle A. Corrigan
Town Manager
