East Greenwich Town Council appoints Bernard L. Partenaude as Fire Chief

EAST GREENWICH, RHODE ISLAND – The East Greenwich Town Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Bernard L. Patenaude to the position of East Greenwich Fire Chief.  Chief Patenaude joins the East Greenwich Fire Department after 39 years of service with the Cranston Fire Department where he served as the Assistant Chief of Department for the past nine years.

The selection process for a Fire Chief began in January 2019 with Joseph C. Duarte, Acting Town Manager, forming a group to advise him, comprised of the North Kingstown Fire Chief Scott Kettelle and Attorney Vincent Ragosta (E.G. Personnel Board Member).  Ten (10) applicants were interviewed from a list of twenty four (24) applicants.  Three candidates were selected for final interviews with the Town Council.

Highlights of Chief Patenaude’s career include:

  • Oversight of the Cranston Fire Department staff of 206 employees with a $32 million budget.
  • Fire Education and Training Board, Rhode Island State Fire Academy.
  • Incident Command and National Incident Management System Certified.
  • United States Coast Guard licensed Master of Vessels and a member of the Port of Providence Area Committee.
  • Bachelor Degree in Fire Science from Providence College.
  • Volunteer firefighter, East Greenwich District 1977-1981.

East  Greenwich welcomes Chief Patenaude to the Town’s management team.  

We  also  extend  our gratitude to Acting Chief Mears for his hard work in supervising our fire-rescue services over the past several months.  Job well done!

Tax Assessor's office is moving!

On Tuesday, March 19, 2019 the Tax Assessor and the clerk will be located at 111 Peirce Street in the Department of Public Works offices.  

You may visit the office for information on tax exemptions, tax assessments and property record cards.
Additionally, the Assessor's page on the Town web site has all of the information listed above.

Please note that Tax payments will continue to be collected in the Finance office in Town Hall at 125 Main Street.

Public Notice - Budget Announcement

This is to advise that pursuant to Article I, Section C-33 of the East Greenwich Town Charter that a copy of the proposed Town budget for Fiscal Year 2020 will be available for review at the Town Hall and on the Town website by May 1, 2019.

SATURDAY ˜ APRIL 6, 2019 ˜ 10:00 to 12 noon

VACCINATION FEE: $12.00 (Cash only)

  • Dogs must be leashed and attended by an adult.
  • To be eligible for a three-year vaccine, owners must bring proof of prior three-year vaccination.
  • Dogs and cats receiving their first vaccination, or those with an unknown rabies vaccination history, are given a one-year vaccine.
  • You do not need to be a resident of the Town in order to attend.


  • All dog licenses for East Greenwich residents are renewable during the month of April in the Town Clerk's office and can also be obtained at the rabies clinic.
  • LICENSE FEE: $8.00 (Cash or Check)
  • Certification of vaccination must be presented when applying for dog license
  • Rhode Island State Law requires that ALL DOGS and CATS over the age of four months be vaccinated against rabies.
