1. What is the map, plat and lot for a property and how do I find it?

The map, plat, and lot for a specific property is an individual identification for a parcel in Town. There are 3 sets of numbers which identify a parcel (ex. 001-015-235 OR 1-15-235).

There are a few ways the map, plat and lot can be found for a property. One way is to find the parcel on the Town's GIS website. Another way is to enter the Northeast Revaluation database for East Greenwich and enter the address of the property. If you are still having trouble, you can e-mail the Planning Department and we will provide you with the answer.

2. How do I find out the zoning of a property?

The zoning of parcel or lot can be located on the tax maps in the Maps & GIS section of the website.

3. How do I figure out the set-backs of a property?

The set-backs of a property are zone-specific and can be found in the "Dimensional Regulations by Zone" document.

4. If I live in the Historic District in Town, what do I need to know?

The historic town map can be found HERE. The Downtown Historic map can be found HERE. If you would like the modify the exterior of a historic structure, the guidelines found HERE will be helpful. Also, take a look at the Review Process and Standards.

Modifications to the exterior of a historic structure will often send you to be heard before the Historic District Commission for permission to do so. The application can be found HERE. Please print and complete the application. Once the application is complete, please submit the application to the Planning Department located in the Lower Level of the Town Hall at 125 Main Street.

5. Is the Building Department part of the Planning Department?

No, the Building Department is housed in the Public Works Department located at 111 Peirce Street, Lower Level.

Permits can be obtained from the Public Works Department located at 111 Peirce Street, Lower Level. You can also visit the Building Permits & Information page.

7. How do I find out if my property is in a flood zone?

8. How do I find out about any planned amendments to the zoning ordinance or land development and subdivision regulations?

You can sign up for electronic notification of any such changes through the Town’s web page. Click on the “Notify Me” icon on the home page and add your e-mail address under “Public Notice Registry.” State law currently requires every city and town to maintain a registry for interested parties (residents/business-owners/non-profit organizations – you do not have to be a registered voter in EG to sign up).
